Thankful Barry wasn’t all it was cracked up to be

Barry wasn’t all he was made out to be.

Despite an ominous forecast that included high winds and torrential downpours, the hurricane left the Miss-Lou relatively unscathed. Although the weekend did include some flash flood warnings and sporadic power outages from wind damage, residents breathed a sigh of relief after the storm moved through the area Monday. That is good news for all of us.

The forecasters may have missed their predictions this weekend. In the face of what could have been a disastrous weekend, however, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Barry may not have been full of bluster, but the next storm might be.

Other good news from the week:

4Cathedral School graduate Samuel Freiberger discovered an essay he wrote earlier this year was named one of the five winning essays in the 23rd annual Signet Classics Student Scholarship Essay Contest. Freiberger received a $1,000 scholarship as well as a complete Signet Classic library to be donated to Cathedral.

4Adams County Christian School valedictorian Shelby Mason is about smiles and sports. Mason accepted a two-year softball scholarship to Southwest Community College. Because children are her passion, Mason plans to become a pediatric dentist in the future. With her determination, we know Mason will find success behind the plate and in the dentist’s office.

4 Church members from Crosspoint Church are on a journey they have been planning for than a year. The group left for a mission trip to the Philippines where they plan to build a playground and share the Gospel with underprivileged children and youth at public schools and a juvenile detention center. We wish the group a safe and blessed time on their journey.

As we dry out from several days of rain, let’s look for good news in the community.
