Cathedral’s second and what turned out to be final game of the day went five innings as the Lady Green Wave defeated the Christian Home Educators Fellowship Lady Patriots out of Baton Rouge 5-0. That game got underway at 1:30 p.m.

Anna Poole went the distance for the Lady Green Wave, allowing just two hits while striking out a season-high eight batters with just one walk. Poole threw 50 of her 77 pitches for strikes.

Cathedral scored all of its runs in the first two innings — two runs in the bottom of the first inning and three runs in the bottom of the second. But even against was supposed to be an inferior opponent, the Lady Green Wave had just four base hits. Hailey Ellis was 1-for-1 with one run scored while Marlie Hargon and Kinsley Young were each 1-for-2 at the plate. Young had one run batted in and one run scored. Fisher Iseminger was 1-for-3 with one run scored.

Madeline Smith reached base once on an error and also drove in two runs. Lauren Dunbar and Kolemyn Grace Fisher each scored one run for the Lady Green Wave. Cathedral’s game against Columbia Academy was rained out.

Cathedral (6-10) was scheduled to play at MAIS District 4-4A opponent Brookhaven Academy Monday afternoon. But heavy rain in Brookhaven in recent days forced both the junior varsity and varsity games to be postponed until Sept. 17 with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

The Lady Green Wave plays host to another district foe in Oak Forest Academy today. The JV game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Centreville Academy 6, Cathedral 5

In its first game of the day that started at 9:30 a.m., the host Centreville Academy Lady Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to rally for a 6-5 win over the Cathedral Lady Green Wave.

Cathedral jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Centreville responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Each team scored one run in the second inning to make it a 5-4 game in favor of the Lady Green Wave.

But a lack of hitting by its offense and untimely defensive miscues hurt Cathedral in the end. The Lady Green Wave had just two hits — a double by Lauren Dunbar and a single by Allie Feltus. Dunbar went 1-for-2 with one run batted in and Feltus was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

All of the Lady Green Wave’s first-inning runs were courtesy of five walks issued by Centreville’s starting pitcher, Amanda Newman. Fisher Iseminger scored one run, Gracie Harrigill had one RBI and scored one run, Anna Poole had one RBI, and Lily Crum scored one run.

Lana Dalton came on in relief for the Lady Tigers and limited Cathedral to one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings to pick up the win. Newman allowed four runs, three of them earned, struck out two, and did not give up a base hit in her one inning on the mound.

Poole was charged with the loss after allowing six runs, only two of them earned, on six hits with two strikeouts, no walks, and three hit batters.

Centreville was led at the plate by Savannah Hailey, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Rylee Shell was 1-for-2 with a triple, one RBI, and one run scored. Emilea Roberts was 1-for-2 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored. Lexlea Sterling was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.
