BROOKHAVEN — For the first time this season, the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels are on a winning streak after coming up victorious in all three of their games Saturday at the Brookhaven Academy Tournament.

The same, however, could not be said for either the Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave or the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers. Cathedral lost two of its three games while Centreville went 1-1.

ACCS needed just three innings to dispose of the Prairie View Academy Lady Spartans 11-1 in its first game of the day. Becca Cowan gave up just two hits and struck out five batters in her three innings on the mound.

Rileigh Walters and Amber Scroggins each went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs batted in with Walters also scoring a pair of runs. Kate Parsons doubled and scored a run while Georgia Martin went 1-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Cassi Haydel was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

ACCS put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and six runs in the bottom of the third. The Lady Rebels had 11 base hits and committed just one error.

The Lady Rebels scored all four of their runs against Glenbrook School in the top of the first inning and held for a 4-1 win over the Lady Apaches in a five-inning contest.

Cowan gave up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and just one walk over four innings. Geri Brumfield was 2-for-2 with one run scored and Paris Harveston was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Parsons was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored while Cowan also had one RBI. Walters and Heidi Zimmerman, who had a base hit, each scored a run for the Lady Rebels.

ACCS’s final game of the day went five full innings with the Lady Rebels shutting out the Newton County Academy Lady Generals 3-0. Cowan pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk.

The Lady Rebels scored two runs in the top of the first inning and one run in the top of the second inning. Cowan, Haydel, Martin, and Walters each had a single while Marlee McGarry and Cameron Strittman each had a double. Haydel, Brumfield and Strittman each scored a run while McGarry, Walters and Zimmerman each drove in a run. They also took advantage of three errors by the Lady Generals.

ACCS (4-12) traveled to Amite, La. to take on Oak Forest Academy Monday afternoon in an MAIS District 4-4A game.

Cathedral jumped out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half before Tri-County Academy struck for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning as the Lady Rebels from Flora took a 7-5 win in three innings in the Lady Green Wave’s first game of the day.

Allie Feltus went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Lauren Dunbar, Fisher Iseminger, and Gracie Harrigill each had a base hit with Dunbar and Iseminger each driving in a run. Hailey Ellis, Katelon Nettles, and Lily Crum each scored a run.

Once again, the Lady Green Wave could not hold an early lead as the Jackson Preparatory School Lady Patriots rallied for a 5-4 win to drop Cathedral to 0-2 in tournament play.

Cathedral scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, which included a two-run home run by Dunbar, who was 1-for-2. But Jackson Prep responded with a four-run rally in the top of the second inning. Carly Lewis and Olivia Clapp each had key base hits for the Lady Patriots in that frame.

Jackson Prep scored the game-winning run in the top of the third when Lewis drew a walk. That was the second of her two walks as she also went 1-for-1 with three RBIs and one run scored. KaMiya Dillon was 1-for-2 with one run scored, Kayleigh Canoy was 1-for-2 with one run scored, and Taylor Caton was hit by a pitch, walked once, and scored two runs.

Ellis was 2-for-2 with one run scored while both Iseminger and Anna Poole were 1-for-2 with one run scored. Poole was charged with the loss after giving up five earned runs on seven hits with five walks, one strikeout and one hit batter in three innings.

The Lady Green Wave was able to do a little turnabout’s fair play on the opposition as they rallied from an early 4-2 deficit to defeat the Franklin Academy Cougars 7-4 in their finale to finish 1-2 in the tournament.

Cathedral was trailing 4-2 at the end of the first inning before Dunbar stepped up and with two on and on an 0-2 count, sent a pitch by Truelove (no first name given) out of the park for a three-run home run and a 5-4 Lady Green Wave lead in the top of the second inning. They would add two more runs in the top of the third.

Crum was the winning pitcher as she came on in relief as she allowed just one hit and struck out one in three innings. Ellis was 2-for-2 with one run scored. Haleigh Nunnery, Liza Gregg, and Kinsley Young each had a base hit with Nunnery driving in a run while Gregg and Young each scored a run. Iseminger and Kolemyn Grace Fisher each had an RBI. Nettles scored two runs for the Lady Green Wave.

Cathedral (8-13) traveled to Clinton, La. to take on District 4-4A opponent Silliman Institute Monday afternoon.

Centreville Academy defeated the Briarfield Academy Lady Rebels 5-3 before falling to Prairie View Academy 5-4 in its two games at the BA Tournament. The Lady Tigers traveled to Bay Springs to take on Sylva-Bay Academy Monday afternoon in an MAIS District 3-2A varsity doubleheader.
