NATCHEZ — The Cathedral High School Lady Green Wave will be the No. 4 seed out of District 4-4A for the MAIS Class 4A South State Tournament, which takes place at Magee Sports Complex in Magee with Simpson Academy being the host school for the double-elimination tournament.

Cathedral, which was 3-5 in a tough District 4, will take on the Hartfield Academy Lady Hawks in an opening-round game at 10 a.m. Saturday. Hartfield Academy is the No. 1 seed from District 3.

The tournament itself will be played over two days — Saturday, Sept. 21 and Monday, Sept. 23. The top four teams will advance to the Class 4A State Tournament on Sept. 28 and 30, which will also be played at the Magee Sports Complex.

The Lady Green Wave won four of its last five regular-season games, including an upset over longtime MAIS softball powerhouse Silliman Institute last week. They enter the tournament with an overall record of 11-14.

“We’ve been playing well the last two weeks. Hopefully we’ll play well in that 10 a.m. game. Make sure you win that first game,” Lady Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley. “They have a tough district with Simpson Academy, Park Place (Christian Academy), and Hillcrest (Christian School).”

Brookhaven Academy was the champion of District 4 while Silliman came in second place and Oak Forest Academy finished third. Hillcrest Christian finished in second place in District 3, Simpson Academy was third, and Parke Place Christian was fourth.

If Cathedral defeats Hartfield Academy, it will take on the Game 2 winner between Simpson Academy and Silliman Institute game in a winners’ bracket game Saturday at 2 p.m.

But if the Lady Green Wave loses, it drops to the losers’ bracket and will face the loser of that same game Saturday at 12 p.m.
