Woods is suspected of shooting Kendra Hunter, 16, as she was trying to run away from Woods at a house on Grove Acres Road.

Brown said ACSO deputies responded to a shots fired call on Grove Acres Road at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Brown said by the time deputies arrived on the scene, Hunter had been transported to Merit Health Hospital with a gunshot wound in the back.

Brown said Hunter was transported to a Jackson-area hospital where she is recovering.

Brown said witnesses on the scene said that Woods had driven up into the victim’s driveway.

Brown said Woods is the ex-boyfriend of Hunter’s sister.

After getting out of the car, Woods and Hunter reportedly had an altercation. Brown said after Woods reportedly pulled out a gun, Hunter tried to run away.

Woods then reportedly shot Hunter in the back and fled the scene, Brown said.

Brown said the investigation is ongoing and that other arrests in the incident are pending.

Brown said a photograph of Woods is not yet available.

Brown asked anyone with information about Woods’ whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000. Calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.
