Natchez — Funeral services for Richard Elmer Smallwood, 87, of Natchez, who died Monday, February 10, 2020 will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. at Embrew Baptist Church in Woodville with Dr. Rev. Jessie Earls officiating.

Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery in Natchez under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Mr. Smallwood was born March 15, 1932, the son of Dorsey Smallwood and Anna Smallwood. He attended Wilkinson County Public Schools and worked at Fred Netterville Lumber Companies for many years. Richard was baptized at an early age at Embrew Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon until his health began to fail. He was affectionately known as the “the greens man”, as he loved raising a garden. Richard never met a stranger.

He leaves to cherish his memories, the love of his life, Ella Mae Wallace Smallwood; daughters, Cynthia Earls and husband Elmo, Audrey Gladney, Sandra Davis and husband Glenn, Connie Whitley; sons, Richard Lee Smallwood, Jr., Michael Smallwood and wife Angela, Calvin Butler and wife Aquetta; sisters, Emma Lear Thomas and Anna Noel; brothers, Augusta Smallwood and Johnny

Smallwood and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
