Happy Fat Tuesday!

The Miss-Lou got a jump on Mardi Gras, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday, with the Krewe of Phoenix Parade on Friday night in downtown Natchez and plenty of fun was had by all.

Today is officially Mardi Gras the final day of revelry before we enter the Lenten season leading up to Easter, which is April 12 this year.

Mardi Gras fun, however, is just one of the many good news items from the Miss-Lou last week.

Below we celebrate some of the other good news items from the Miss-Lou last week.

* A former Vidalia nurse saved a man’s life after he came across the man unconscious in the parking lot of Best Buy.

For his efforts to save the man, Stephen Wells, earned a Daisy Award, which is issued to only a handful of extraordinary nurses out of more than 5,000 applicants.

Great work, Wells!

* Girl Scout Cookies are in stock in the Miss-Lou. For the next several weeks, the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi will be selling approximately 3,000 boxes of cookies through Mid-March.

Samoas, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoil Shortbread, Do Si Dos, S’Mores and Toffetastic are all available.

Proceeds from the sales go to help the Girl Scouts organization, which does so much for young women.

* The new owners of Dunleith are working to get the historic mansion back in operation as a bed and breakfast and restaurant and pub as well as an event location.

Dunleith has been closed for approximately a year as the former owner went into bankruptcy and the facility was recently sold to the J Collection, a hotel group out of New Orleans.

The facility is expected to eventually employ up to 60 people, many of whom previously worked at Dunleith.

That’s certainly good news.
