NATCHEZ — The ongoing threat of COVID-19 has pushed many local events and businesses to close, cancel or postpone their operations.

However, below are a few ways you can keep yourself entertained this weekend without getting out into crowds of people.

Take a walk

Open air and exercise are healthy alternatives to staying inside. A number of walking trails and parks remain open for public use in the Miss-Lou, including the Natchez bluff trail and Duncan Park — however, the Duncan Park’s shops are closed and city playground equipment is currently off-limits.

Rent or stream a movie

Local movie theaters have closed. Streaming services such as Netflix, Apple TV Plus, Amazon Prime Video offer ways for people to enjoy films from their living rooms, phones or tablets. Disney+ has posted an early digital release for “Frozen II” as a way of providing “some fun and joy during this challenging period,” Walt Disney Studios announced last week.

Read a book

Those who don’t have their own at-home library can check out what is available at their local libraries’ websites. The Concordia Parish Library and the Judge George W. Armstrong Library in Natchez both have e-book options online for their cardholders. More information can be found on their websites at concordialibrary.org and armstronglibrary.com.

Play a game

No screen can replace the quality of family time. Perhaps now is a good time to dust off the old Monopoly or trivia set and spend time with loved ones at home.
