HOUSTON – Services for Shirley Albert Davis, 61, of Houston, who died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital, were 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at East Park Baptist Church with the Rev. M.L. Holiday officiating.
Burial followed at Calvary Hill Cemetery under the direction of Frazier Mitchell Funeral Service.
Memorial services were from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Greater New Galilee Worship Center in Houston.
Mrs. Davis was born April 18, 1946, in Natchez, the daughter of John and Rosetta English Albert. She was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School. She spent many years in the health profession, providing nursing care to various individuals and families. She became a spokesperson and an activist for breast cancer awareness.
Mrs. Davis was a Baptist and upon relocating to Houston, she united with East Park Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the ushers’ auxiliary until her departure. She had a love for flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Courtney Albert; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include a devoted husband, Willie Davis; three sons, Terence Albert Sr. and wife, Sharon, both of Tupelo, Christopher Hawkins and Willis Davis; one daughter, Valarie Neutton and Latron Jackson, all of Houston; one sister, Mary Lee Williams of Natchez; two brothers, the Rev. Carl E. English and wife, Elizabeth, both of El Paso, Texas and Robert Albert and wife, Triona, both of Dallas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one goddaughter, LaVerne Addison; four god-grandchildren; one god-great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.
