NATCHEZ – Services for James Smith, 86, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Greater St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow at Elgin Cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born in Adams County, the son of George Smith and Elizabeth Bacon. He was a self-employed painter and carpenter. He was retired. Mr. Smith was a member of Greater St. James Baptist Church where he served as president of the usher board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna Conner Smith; two daughters, Lillie Smith and Janie Smith; seven brothers, Alfred E. Smith, Henry Smith, Andrew Smith, George Smith, Sam Smith, Richard Bacon and Leonard Bacon; three sisters, Elanora Smith Pickett, Beatrice Smith Cade and Claudia Smith Thornburg; brother-in-law, Vernon L. Cade; and sister-in-law, Inell Washington.
Survivors include three daughters, Viola “Pat” Jackson and husband, Larry, and Eddie Lee Curtis, all of Natchez, and Maple Ruth King of Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Laura Harris.
Pallbearers will be Clarence Armstead, Richard Thomas, Travis Matthews, Ray Jackson, Richard Curtis Jr. and Elbert Lyles.
