JACKSON – Memorial services for James Lee Evans, 57, of Jackson, who died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, will be at noon Friday at Society Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, in Jackson, with the Rev. Robert Patton officiating.
Mr. Evans was born June 3, 1951, in Natchez, the son of Robert Evans and Elouise King Evans. He confessed Christ at an early age, in Natchez, and later moved his membership to Society Ridge Baptist Church under the pastorship of the Rev. Robert Patton. He was educated in Adams County Public Schools and later served in the armed forces. His hobbies included reading, cooking, working with his hands and sharing time with his special friends.
In 1976, he met and married Brenda Joyce Terrell, and to this union one son and one daughter was born.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and best friend; one sister, Josie King Edwards; two brothers, Leon Washington and Leahman Evans; and his loving brother-in-law, Robert L. Scott Sr.
Survivors include one son, Orenthia “Mookie” Evans and friend, Antoinette Wilson, both of Pearl; two daughters, Alesia “Lisa” Evans and Shashonda Bernard, both of Natchez; four sisters, Debra E. “Gift” Knapp of Clinton, Dorothy Matthews, Gloria Butler and Linda Evans, all of Natchez; six brothers, Raymond Evans, Charles Evans, Robert “Butch” Evans, Darling Evans, William Evans, Anthony Evans and Wayne Evans; five grandchildren, O’Shaye Evans, Atearyni Johnson, Amaya Evans, Jalen Evans, Olivia Wilson, Diamond Bernard and Davion Allen; four special nieces, Daphne White Allen and husband, Clarence, Marceline White and husband, Garrie, Jacqueline Harris and husband, Samuel, and Lakenya M. Evans; three special nephews, Clarence White, Derek Evans and Larry E. Haynes Jr.; a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and special friend, Delois Cooper.
