MEADVILLE – Services for William Joseph “Doug” Newman, 74, of Roxie, who died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, in Meadville, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Newman Cemetery, in Amite County, under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Newman was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Amite County, the son of John Henry Newman and Quida Sterling Newman Kramer. He was a retired mechanic. Mr. Newman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Newman; and one stepson, Tom Shell.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Shell Newman; one son, Edward Newman of Husser, La.; three daughters, Regina Newell of Meadville, Coleen Traylor and Dawn Newman, both of Pounchataula, La.; one stepdaughter, Kathy Travis of West Virginia; one sister, Inez Cutrer of Osyka; one half-brother, Samuel Scott Kramer of Liberty; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
