NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Curtis Edward Cowart Sr., 83, who died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at Natchez Regional Medical Center will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joel Haire officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.

Mr. Cowart was born Jan. 9, 1925, in McCall Creek, the son of Edward Leston and Eunice Smith Cowart. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 40 years and was the owner of Cowart Appliance and Refrigeration Service for 40 years. Mr. Cowart retired after working for the Natchez Public School Maintenance Department for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a decorated veteran recipient of the bronze star, a member of the Woodsmen of the World and was a licensed pilot. Mr. Cowart was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He thought the world of his great-grandchildren, and loved spending time playing with them. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruby Cowart.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Edward Cowart Jr. and wife, Deborah Kahl and Randy Cowart and wife, Lori Ann, all of Natchez; one daughter, Carolyn Ann Allen and husband Greg of Natchez; five grandchildren, Elaine Cowart Burke and husband, Jaime, Adam Thornton and wife, Brandy, Leston Edward Cowart and wife, Misty, Curt Thornton and Kristin Thornton; four great-grandchildren, Spencer Burke, Ainsley Belle Burke, Abbey Nicole Cowart and Seth Cowart.

Pallbearers will be Leston Cowart, Adam Thornton, Greg Allen, Mike Cook, Wayne Rabb and Kenny Jackson.
