HARVEY—Services for Joseph Roy Newsome Sr., 85, of Algiers and formerly of Woodville, who died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, of congestive heart failure, will be 6 p.m. today at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Newsome was a native of Woodville, and a resident of Algiers for more than 35 years. His interests included spending time with his family and friends, and his love for the game of golf. A graduate from Louisiana State University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering after serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He retired after 38 years of service to Chevron as a Petroleum Engineer. He was a Member of Aurora United Methodist Church of Algiers and a senior member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Baldwin M. Newsome and Effie Pickett Newsome of Utica, and one brother, Jim “Sonny” Newsome of Moscow, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred Allain Newsome, one son, Joseph Roy Newsome and wife Harriet, of New Orleans; two daughters, Karen Newsome Cousins and husband Douglas, of Spring, Texas, and Linda Newsome Ellis and husband, Jim, of Plano, Texas, and seven grandchildren, Laura Ann Newsome, Joseph Roy Newsome III, Douglas Casey Cousins, Danielle Louise Cousins, Katrina Elizabeth Cousins, Jake Dixon Ellis and Dustin Michael Ellis.
