JONESVILLE — Services for Dr. James Allen Jones, 78, of Jonesville, who died Monday, March 14, 2011, in Alexandria, La., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jonesville with Dr. George Wortham officiating.

Burial will follow at Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dr. Jones was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Mathis, Texas, the son of Frank and Louise Jones.

Dr. Jones was a graduate of Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans with a doctorate degree in dental surgery. He was a member of the C. Victor-Vignes Odontological Society, which is an honorary scholastic society, and the Supreme Chapter of Xi Psi Phi Fraternity. He graduated May 29, 1962, passed the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry exams June 8, 1962, and began his practice in Jonesville two weeks later. He continued to practice dentistry in Jonesville for 44 years before retiring in 2006.

Dr. Jones was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Four Rivers Lodge No. 369 F&AM Jonesville, La., and he proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters, Amber and Erin Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Catherine Bravos Jones; one son, George Jones and wife, Candy, of Gilbert, La.; two daughters, Karyn Matthews and husband, Vic, of Monroe, La., and Dina Cumbo and husband, Rick, of Biloxi; eight grandchildren, Lyndsey, Garrett and Hunter Jones, Jim, John and Jake Matthews, Cory and Kayla Cumbo; one brother, Carlton Jones and wife, Clarice, of DeQuincy, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Garrett and Hunter Jones, Jim Matthews, Angelo Landrum of League City, Texas, Erik Landrum of Austin, Texas and Dale Jones of DeQuincy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Tiser, Mike Wilson, Franklin L. Jones, John and Jake Matthews, Vic Matthews, Cory Cumbo, Rick Cumbo, Carlton Jones, Clint Landrum and Dr. William Coney.
