GLOSTER — Services for Calvin Philip Poole , 87, of Natchez, who died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at  St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Gloster with Father Walthan Jones officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Monday until service time.

Poole was born June 13, 1924, in the Homochitto community Amite County, the son of Joseph Hillary Poole and Willie Josephine Berryhill Poole.

He attended Old Miss in 1941, then served four years in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He then returned to Old Miss for four years where he played football, basketball, baseball and boxing and received his master’s degree in 1949. He taught school and coached in Woodville and Winnsboro. He was a mason, a shriner and retired as an insurance agent for Equitable. Mr. Poole was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez.

Poole was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters, Ernestine Sorrells, Della Mae Robertson, Fleming Poole, Montez Cassels, Joseph Hillary Poole and Dean Poole.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen H. Poole; one daughter, Rosa Josephine Poole; one son, Calvin Phillip Poole, Jr.; three grandchildren, Calvin Phillip Poole III, Hunter Daniel Poole and Joseph Hillary Poole; and one brother, Jackie Poole.
