NATCHEZ — Private memorial services for Richard C. Bloom, 74, of Natchez, who died Friday, May 31, 2013, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 5 p.m. today at the home of Mrs. Loma Martin in Natchez.
Mr. Bloom was born Nov. 14, 1938, in New York City, the son of Albert and Anne Flynn Bloom. He graduated in 1960 with a bachelor of marine engineering degree from New York State Maritime College at Fort Schuyler. He also graduated with a master’s of science degree in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963. In 2000, Mr. Bloom received a career service award from the secretary of the U.S. Navy for 40 years of service at Avondale shipyard in New Orleans. He moved to Natchez following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Mr. Bloom was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Victoria Jane McNab Bloom.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Bloom of Decatur, Ga.; his friend and companion, Mary Holland of Natchez; one sister, Barbara of Arizona; and three nieces, Kathryn, Elizabeth and Maryanne, all of New York.
Mr. Bloom will be greatly mourned and missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association at 1101 Northchase Parkway, Marietta, GA 30067.
