MONTEREY — Funeral services for Ray F. Routon, Jr., 76, of Monterey, La., who died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday, with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.
Burial will follow in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Routon was a member if the First Baptist Church in Ferriday. His career included 28 years at Jordan Auto in Natchez and many years at Waller-Singer in Winnsboro. He served as chairman of the Democratic Parish Executive Committee, as honorary deputy for the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, was a member of the Concordia Parish Board of Supervisors of Elections and was involved in land development in Concordia Parish.
He proudly served two tours in the U.S. Army Reserves which included over 500 parachute jumps.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Routon; parents, Ray F. Routon Sr., and Eloise Routon McNeely; grandparents, Clarence F. and Imogene Routon and Aletha and Filmore Burley.
Survivors include his step-father, Oscar K. McNeely; aunt, Imogene Burley King; and a number of loving extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Elliot Britt, Tommy “Red” Tiffee, Robert Clayton, Hyram Copeland, Kenneth Hedrick, Billy Joe Ratcliff, Billy Rucker, John Wallace and Ricky Donnell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Delane Burnett, Bud Cupit, Clarence F. Routon Jr., Harold Glen Routon and Kevin Routon.
