LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — Ferriday head football coach Cleothis Cummings III felt like the Trojans could still somehow make the Class 2A Playoffs despite having a less-than-stellar record if they were to defeat General Trass High School Friday night.
His players did their part as Ferriday did just enough on offense in the fourth quarter to defeat the Panthers 28-20 in an LHSAA District 2-2A game. Now it’s wait-and-see time as the Trojans find out if they did enough to garner a spot in the postseason.
Ferriday led General Trass, formerly Lake Providence High School, 12-0 at halftime before the Panthers cut the lead in half in the third quarter. However, the Trojans managed to hold them off with a 16-14 edge in the fourth quarter.
With the win, Ferriday improved to 3-7 overall and finished district play with a 1-4 mark.
Buckeye 42, Vidalia 0
DEVILLE, La. — The Buckeye Panthers had no problem defeating the Vidalia Vikings Friday night in an LHSAA District 3-3A game and ended up as co-champions of the district with Caldwell Parish.
Buckeye took a 15-0 lead over Vidalia at the end of the first quarter and then put the game away with a 21-point second quarter. Even though the Vikings’ defense played better in the second half, their offense was unable to move the ball effectively and put points on the scoreboard.
Vidalia finished the season with an eight-game losing streak to end up 2-8 overall and 0-5 in district play.
