NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office published Wednesday a fatal wreck report from late March, which was then posted on The Natchez Democrat’s website.

The ACSO’s public information office sent out a news release about a fatal accident on Providence Road Wednesday afternoon, which was published online at The Democrat. The release stated the wreck happened 10 a.m., Wednesday.

The ACSO later took down the news release after discovering the information was from a report on a wreck in late March, which had previously been reported.

“The investigators filed a continuing investigation report with the new reports, and when the public information officer saw the new file, she thought it was a new (wreck) report and put it online,” Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.

“When the officer realized the report was on the old wreck, the release was taken down.”
