Jeannette Saltzman Gremillion

FERRIDAY — Funeral services for Jeannette Saltzman Gremillion, 92, who died Saturday, March 14, 2015, will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Truman Stagg and the Rev. Louis Sklar officiating.

Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church.

Mrs. Gremillion was born May 16, 1922, in Sicily Island, the daughter of Maurice I. and Gladys Kendrick Saltzman.

After graduating from Sicily Island High School she attended Louisiana Tech then graduated from LSU in 1942. She loved Concordia and Catahoula Parishes and was very active in those communities. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Sicily Island United Methodist Church until 1954 when she moved to Ferriday. There she became a member of the Sevier Memorial Untied Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church council. Mrs. Gremillion taught school in both Sicily Island and Ferriday Elementary schools for 18 years before retiring. She was a member of the Ferriday Garden Club and Ferriday Community Service Clubs holding virtually every leadership position including president for numerous years. She volunteered at Riverland Medical Center as pink lady and at the Delta Music Museum. She also served as a member of the board of directors of the Sicily Island State Bank from 1975 until 2002 serving as vice-president and chairperson of the board during that time. Mrs. Gremillion traveled extensively and enjoyed the close relationship she had with her many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Glenn B. Gremillion Sr.; her second husband, Daniel E, Gremillion Sr.; and her stepson, Dr. Kenneth E. Gremillion Sr.

She is survived by her sons, Judge Glenn B. Gremillon Jr. and wife, Fontaine, Dr. Maurice J. Gremillion and wife Becky, of Ferriday, Dr. Daniel E. Gremillion Jr. and wife Jennifer, of Nashville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and many family and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeffrey Gremillion, Shannon Gremillion, Jean Gremillion, Bradley Gremillion, Justin Gremillion and Benjamin Gremillion, Mark Gremillion and her great-grandsons, Christian Gremillion and Reese Gremillion.
