MEADVILLE — A Louisiana man died in Franklin County Wednesday night after he was struck by a vehicle while he was sitting in the roadway.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of the incident at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, MHP Spokesman Brandon Fortenbery said.
The victim, Jonathon Stroud, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County coroner.
Fortenbery said the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jared McCarty of Vidalia struck Stroud while traveling westbound on U.S. 84 near its intersection with Schmidt Road.
Stroud was sitting in the middle of the right lane, Fortenbery said.
The vehicle came to a stop after coming into contact with Stroud, Fortenbery said.
The MHP spokesman said Stroud did not appear to have a vehicle in the area.
The matter remains under investigation, Fortenbery said.
