NATCHEZ — Tonight local law enforcement and Adams County residents will observe National Night Out. The event, which was originally scheduled for Oct. 27, was rescheduled because of rain.

County Neighborhood Watch groups will meet in their respective communities from 5:30 to 8 p.m. During that time, Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield and his deputies will caravan to each group to meet with residents, share some good food and celebrate what each Neighborhood Watch group has accomplished this year,

The ACSO will begin the caravan in Broadmoor, then travel to Kingston, then visit Selma and conclude at Morgantown.

National Night Out is a national community law enforcement event meant to increase awareness about local anti-crime efforts.

Most communities celebrate on the first Tuesday in August. The Natchez Police Department observes National Night Out on this date.

In recent years, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has opted to follow other communities in the South and observe the event in the fall.
