Jamarhi R. Lucas, 18, of 841 Martin Luther King Jr. St., was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for alleged shooting 23-year-old Demetric McKnight on the night of Sept. 13.

Natchez Police Department Detective Jerry Ford said the two men had a confrontation on Beaumont Street, which ended with the alleged assault.

Police reports indicate McKnight was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital the night of the incident, but was released soon after.

Ford said an arrest warrant was issued for Lucas in September, but police had been unable to locate Lucas until Tuesday.

An NPD officer on patrol spotted Lucas in a public area and was able to apprehend him. Lucas was being held late Wednesday in the Natchez City Jail with no bond.

If convicted, Lucas faces up to 20 years in prison.
