NATCHEZ — An Adams County man was shot in the head Friday afternoon, but the cause of what led to the shooting and who pulled the trigger remained under investigation Friday night.
Bobby Butler, 24, address unknown, was found lying in the roadway on Gardener Circle in the Broadmoor area of Adams County.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene at approximately 4:16 p.m., and quickly summoned ambulance personnel, a source with the sheriff’s office said Friday night.
Butler initially was transported to Merit Health Natchez, but later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. The extent of Butler’s injuries was not immediately known, but a source said investigators believe he was shot once in the head.
Law enforcement sources said no arrests had been made Friday, but investigators were pursing several persons of interest they believe may have been involved in the shooting.
Calls to Sheriff Chuck Mayfield and messages left for him at the sheriff’s office went unanswered Friday night. Mayfield’s term as sheriff continues through the weekend until Sheriff-elect Travis Patten assumes the office Monday morning.
