AKA Teen Summit was a success

For 108 years, the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. have responded to the world’s increasing demands.  It continues to empower communities through initiatives and programs. We invited the community to join us on this journey and accept this great mission as we render services to all mankind.

The purpose of the sorority is to address major concerns of the community by being a service to all and to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards among college women.  Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. fulfills its purpose through its programs.  Our theme for 2014-2018 is “Launching New Dimensions of Service.” The Teen Summit is just one way that we provide timeless service.

Other Greek letter organizations in the Miss-Lou were contacted to partner with us in this collaborative initiative. They all answered with enthusiasm, service and finances. After weeks of meeting to plan this event, the vision came to fruition on March 5, at the ASU School of Nursing from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

The attendance was phenomenal! This event impacted more than 200 teens, parents and organizations, and has received rave reviews from the community.

The break-out sessions were truly beneficial and informative. The teens received information on Stop the Violence, Stop the Abuse, health issues, History of Natchez. and SMART (Science,  Math and  Related Technology). In celebrating the City of Natchez 300 year birthday the Tricentennial Youth Council joined in to promote the youth within the community.

Please allow me this space to offer many, many thanks to our guest speaker Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten and over twenty five presenters. I would like to offer thanks, also, to other sponsors: Alcorn State University, Natchez Tricentennial Youth Council, Natchez Alumnae Chapter of  Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Vidalia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Magnolia Bluffs Casino.

Each year, since the inception of this event, we have seen continued growth as we serve more and more individuals. Participants received valuable information, enjoy a complimentary lunch and had a chance to win prizes. It is our goal that teens would leave inspired, challenged and determined to be more productive in their homes, churches, schools, and communities.

We, the members of Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. are grateful for the positive responses we received and hope that we can make this an annual event.
