FERRIDAY — The Carroll High School Bulldogs rallied from a 16-8 deficit to defeat the Ferriday High School Trojans 18-16 Friday night at Melz Field in the season opener for both teams.

“We had our opportunities to win it. We just couldn’t finish,” Ferriday head coach Dwight Woods said. “They came up with a big play to win it.

Carroll took a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter, but Ferriday took the lead on a Carlos Collins touchdown and Dominique Jackson’s 2-point conversion run in the second quarter. The Trojans expanded their lead to 10 points on a Ronald Williams quarterback keeper and a Jackson 2-point conversion run in the third quarter.

Carroll cut the lead to 16-12 just past the midway point of the third quarter and took the lead for good in the fourth quarter.

“We covered well. They just dropped in a perfect pass,” Woods said.

Woods added that it was the low-scoring defensive battle he expected it to be.

“Give them credit. They were physical. Probably a lot tougher than we were,” Woods said.

Ferriday (0-1) plays at 7 p.m. next Friday at home against Block.

Ouachita Christian 52, Block 6
