WILDSVILLE, La. — Services for David H. Riggs, 85, of Jonesville, who died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in Hartford, Ala., will be 10 a.m. Friday at Evangeline Baptist Church in Wildsville, La., with the Rev. Dennis Baker and the Rev. Curtis Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors from the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign War Post 5002, under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Mr. Riggs was born April 16, 1931, in Jonesville, the son of Daniel B. Riggs Sr. and Charlotte Wilson Riggs.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and lifelong resident of Jonesville. He served as a deacon at Evangeline Baptist Church. He worked for International Paper Company for more than 50 years. At one time, he and his wife, Veta, operated a bakery business. He was an avid Louisiana State University fan.

Mr. Riggs was a gentle, kind and caring man who loved the Lord and his family. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Daniel B. Riggs Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Alice Riggs Case and Camille Riggs Baxter.

Survivors include one son, David E. Riggs and wife, Nicole, of Germany; one grandson, Chase Riggs; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be David Shirley, Less McCartney, Ervin White, David Wade, Aaron Wade and Leslie Wayne Middleton.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Evangeline Baptist Church.
