NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Charles David “Monkey” Smith, 87, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Emergency Fallout Shelter behind Rite Aid and beside Natchez High School.
Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Natchez, the son of Phillip Smith and Bessie Halford Smith.
He retired from Armstrong Tire Company and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of more than 50 years, Ruth Alee Smith; one daughter, Shannon Downs Nettles; one grandson, Cameron David Smith; and one sister, Helen Harrigill.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Garden and husband, Jerry, of Vero Beach, Fla.; two sons, Walter David “Egor” Smith of Natchez and Adam Smith of Kansas City, Kan.; one brother, P.C. Smith and wife, Christine; half-sister, Joyce Hendley of Natchez; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
