JONESVILLE — Services for George “Ray” Barnes Sr., 82, of Jonesville, who died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at his residence, will be 11 a.m. today at Moss Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Thess A. Baker officiating.

Burial will follow at the Moss Grove Cemetery under the direction of Gayden Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday morning at the church. 

Mr. Barnes, the son of Leroy Barnes and Elizabeth Cooper Curry, was born Feb. 13, 1935 in Pineville. “Ray,” as he was affectionately known, retired from Catahoula Parish School Board (Block High School) after 24 years of service and the Jonesville Police Department after 27 years of service.  He was a lifetime resident of Jonesville. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Bessie Kaho, Sylvia Barnes White and Creola Smith; brother in law, Nathaniel Fisher; and two nephews, Roy Barnes and Cedric Swift. 

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brim Barnes; sons, George Barnes Jr. and wife Pamela of Vidalia, Marvin McKennery Sr. and wife Shirley, and Vincent McKennery and wife, Darlene, both of Las Vegas; daughter, Barbara Mays of Baton Rouge; sisters, Catherine Byrd and husband, Oscar, of Sacramento, Calif., Lorraine Swift and husband, Joe, and Irene Fisher, both of Jonesville; Brothers, Milton Curry Jr., John L Curry Sr. and Wilbert Curry Sr. and wife, Vernice, all of Jonesville; Sister In Laws, Joann Curry and Hannah McCarty; Brother in Laws, Willie Curry and Henry Brim; Grandchildren, Iyna Barnes, George Barnes III, Devin Barnes, Marvin McKennery Jr., Chante Adams, Regina McKennery and Antonio Green; great-grandchildren, Brayden Barnes, Cayden Barnes, Ayden Barnes, Chloe Adams, Na’Sir Green and Antoine Gill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.             

Pallbearers will be George “Trey” Barnes III, Devin Barnes, Kerry Swift, Marvin McCarty, Jeremy Washington-Scott and Elric Wagner Jr.
