NATCHEZ — Services for Harvey Wade Jones, 91, of Centreville and formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 at Wilkinson County Senior Care in Centreville, will be 11 a.m. Monday at McNeely Road Church of God with Pastor Brian Monehan officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Mr. Jones was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Centerton, Ark., the son of Roy Augustus Jones and Cyrena Brown Jones.
At 17, in November of 1944, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, going on to see combat in the Battle for Okinawa. He was with the 22nd Marine Regiment with the sixth Marine division. He finished out his tour in China and was present when the Japanese forces surrendered in Tsing Tho on Oct. 25, 1945, reaching the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged in June 1947, graduating Carthage High School that same year. He was also the owner of Jones Construction Company and Triangle Oil Producers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Higgason Jones; one brother; four sisters; one grandson, Chris Holder; one step-daughter, Krista R. Stockstill; and one step-granddaughter, Meagan Gunter.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Jeanette Burlison Jones; three children, Annette Jones Holder and husband, Larry, of Natchez, William Louis Jones and wife, Becky, of Granger, Texas, and Roy Augustus Jones and wife, Anna, of Natchez; three step-children, Kirk Richmond of Mobile, Ala., Carol Richmond of Natchez, and Kellie Dalton and husband, Dan, of Centreville; nine grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Georgia Jones Brady.
Pallbearers will be Wade Holder, Spencer Holder, Camp Holder, Dan Dalton, Rayford Poole, and Will Jones.
Memorials may be made to the Natchez City Cemetery.
