Givens is our pick for Circuit Clerk position

Adams County voters will go to the polls Tuesday to elect the next person to lead the circuit clerk’s office.
With Circuit Clerk Eddie Walker retiring at the end of the year, voters are faced with deciding who they think will bring a smooth transition to an office that has served the taxpayers well during Walker’s three terms in office.
For more than nine years, Eva “E.J” Givens has worked side-by-side with Walker as his Chief Deputy Clerk.
In those years, Givens has been entrusted with handling the major functions of the office on a daily basis.
The circuit clerk’s office is not a glamorous position, but is an important one.
The circuit clerk serves as the clerk of the circuit court, administers elections and issues marriage license.
Experience is a plus in such a position and experience is why Givens is our choice —
the most logical choice to continue an office that has run smoothly and efficiently for the nine years.
In her nine years, Givens has worked for all three courts — youth court, county and circuit court.
In that time, she has taken it upon herself to learn every aspect of the office.
Like her opponent, Givens is committed to seeking improvements in the storage of court records and promises to bring E-filing to the circuit clerk’s office.
E-filing will allow records in the system to be viewed remotely via computer for a nominal fee and enable lawyers — both in town and out of town — to make filings from their home or office.
Above all, we believe Given’s experience and her vision make her the best option among the two candidates.
We encourage voters to give her strong consideration when they cast their votes in Tuesday’s election.
