Concordia Parish Library to host lecture ‘Solving Mysteries at Poverty Point’

VIDALIA, La. — On Thursday, May 9, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Vidalia Library, the Concordia Parish Library will host the lecture ‘”Solving Mysteries at Poverty Point.”
Poverty Point World Heritage Site is an ancient civilization that built uniquely shaped monuments out of dirt, which are located near the Village of Epps in West Carroll Parish.
This amazing place was occupied and constructed by its indigenous inhabitants starting 3,700 years ago beginning in 1700 BCE.
This site and its culture flourished for 600 years and ended by 1100 BCE. The mounds, earthworks, and community are unique in their design and were the largest for their time and place in North America.
No other hunter-gatherer society created monuments and a community on this scale anywhere in the world.
The lecture by Mark Brink, Site Manager at Poverty Point, is sponsored by Louisiana State Parks and is free to the public.
