VIVIAN, La. — The Ferriday High School Trojans saw their season come to an end Friday night as they lost to the North Caddo High School Rebels 64-52 in the quarterfinals of the 2018 LHSAA Class 2A Boys’ State Playoffs.

This makes two years in a row that Ferriday’s season came to a close in the quarterfinals.

The first and third quarters proved to be costly for the No. 10 seed visiting Trojans Friday.

North Caddo (26-6), the No. 2 seed, jumped out to a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. After Ferriday got back in the game with a 19-11 advantage in the second quarter to take a 28-27 lead into halftime, the Rebels responded in a big way. They put up 20 points while holding the Trojans to just 10 points for a 47-38 lead.

“They just played better basketball than we did those two quarters. They executed very well,” Trojans head coach K.G. Watkins said. “We just didn’t play well.”

The Rebels made sure Ferriday would not stage a rally in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Trojans 17-14. Christavious Thomas led North Caddo with a game-high 28 points and Re’chard Hill added 16 points.

Dantrieze Scott and Montrieze Sandidge finished with 16 points each to lead Ferriday, which finished with an overall record of 19-11.

Tensas High 68, Sicily Island 54 (Class 1A Boys)

NEWELLTON, La. — The Sicily Island High School Tigers had their season come to a close at the hands of District 2-1A foe and No. 1 seed Tensas High School Friday night at Newellton Elementary School in the quarterfinals of the 2018 LHSAA Class 1A Boys’ State Playoffs.

Lamonte Bass and Albert South scored 22 points apiece while Tyler Spencer added 14 points as the Panthers overcame an unusual slow start to defeat Sicily Island 68-54 and advance to the semifinals.

Sicily Island, the No. 9 seed, got off to a good start in the first quarter and led Tensas 18-13 at the end of the quarter. Even though the Panthers still struggled offensively and scored just 13 points in the second quarter, their defense helped get them back in the game as they held the Tigers to a mere nine points to go into halftime down just one point, 27-26.

The third quarter was the turning point of this game as Tensas put up 22 points while Sicily Island managed just 10 points as the Panthers took a 48-37 lead into the fourth quarter.

While the Tigers finally got back in their offensive rhythm they had in the first quarter and scored 17 points, they couldn’t make nearly enough stops on the other end of the court as the Panthers had 20 points.

Tyreke Tolliver finished with a game-high 23 points and Keonte Dunbar had 14 points for Sicily Island, which finished at 16-16 overall.
