NATCHEZ— Services for Russell Huber Jr., 65, of LaPlace, La., who died Monday, April 8, 2019, at his residence, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Ensminger officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Huber was born Feb. 6, 1954, in Natchez, the son of Russell Huber Sr. and the Hazel James Huber.
He was best known as an avid football player and fan, having played fullback in high school for the Huntington Hounds of Ferriday. He and his teammates brought home two state championships in 1971 and 1972.  Having earned an athletic scholarship, he was recruited by a number of major colleges and universities.  He chose Tulane University where he excelled in his fullback position from 1973 to 1977, and graduated with a degree in physical education in 1977.
His greatest focus in life was the love of his family and friends and this love showed in everything he did.  No one was left untouched once they became a part of his life.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 40 years.  He was a devoted son, husband, brother, father and grandfather.
Huber was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include the love of his life, Susie Dean; one son, Russell Huber III and wife, Sandy; two daughters, Amy Huber Louviere and husband, Sean, and Julee Huber Peck and husband, Ryan; two stepchildren, Spencer Dean and Clayton Dean; four grandchildren, Parker Huber, Paris Huber, Ellie James Louviere and Emily Dean;  one brother, Jimmy Huber and wife, Cathey; three sisters, Sandra Huber, Sheila Huber Smith and husband, Jack, and Vicky Huber; one uncle, Billy Joe James and wife, Jeannette; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Duce Huber, Terry Arnold Jr., Chandler Arnold, Eddie Price, Terry Looney, Darin Smith, Frank Wilson, Timmy Poole.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Murray, Sean Louviere, Ryan Peck, Coach Bobby Marks, Kenny Brown, Steve Dean and fellow Tulane football teammates.
