The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a winter storm warning for sleet and ice for Adams, Jefferson and Claiborne counties in Mississippi and Concordia and Catahoula parishes in Louisiana.
Forecasters believe a mixture of freezing rain and sleet will continue to develop over the area through Thursday afternoon.
Anyone from one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch of ice accumulation is possible, particularly on elevated surfaces.
The warning is in effect from noon today through 9 a.m. Friday. The warning replaces the previous winter storm watch.
A winter storm warning means conditions are expected and travel is likely to be severely impacted.
