Wait for facts on prison riot

Published 12:00 am Sunday, June 3, 2012

I want to take a moment to commend you for your editorial relating to the recent prison riot and the importance of waiting until all the facts are in before passing judgment.

I spent more than 20 years working in corrections, serving as a senior warden for 13 of those years. In my capacity, I have seen riots first hand and as part of an after-action investigation team.

My experience taught me that we should never pass judgment on any situation until all the facts have been gathered and put into the proper context as the event unfolded. As Sheriff Chuck Mayfield stated, there were some very tough decisions being made that day. Then there will be time to evaluate and move forward. Now is a time for healing both physically and emotionally for the staff and community. It will take some time, but CCA has an excellent team of professionals who will work tirelessly until the mission is accomplished. Once again, I think your approach is spot on.
