If you build complex, they will come

It’s almost summertime again, and there is still no recreation complex. But before we address this issue, we need to talk about something that needs attention now. The youth soccer league plays on a field behind Morgantown School. They have no bleachers, restrooms, no lights, no place for a concession stand and they mow their own grass. I hope Natchez and Adams County elected officials will look into this.

Any recreation complex must have a place for the fastest-growing sport in the country: soccer.

Now to the recreation complex:

The kids of Brookhaven, McComb, Hattiesburg, Vicksburg and Vidalia are already enjoying their complexes. You can be sure these towns are asking people to play in their complexes.

Natchez is late, but with the charm of Adams County and Natchez, the Mighty Mississippi River, old homes and outstanding restaurants, we can get some of these teams to come to Natchez.

The Natchez Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament hosted in Natchez several years ago brought thousands of dollars to this area. Youth tournaments in baseball, softball, soccer and tennis can be a real boost to the Natchez economy.

There has been some talk about building more ball fields and tennis courts in Duncan Park; I hope that this can be achieved. Hiring a recreation director is a good idea to help layout and build the complex.

The youth and citizens of Natchez deserve better! Build the complex, and they will come!

As Larry the Cable Guy would say, “GIT-R-DONE.”
